Rishi Sunak has announced a plan to grant an unprecedented blanket acquittal for thousands of post office operators wrongly convicted in the Horizon IT scandal.
The prime minister said on Wednesday the government would introduce new legislation “to make sure those convicted are swiftly exonerated and compensated”. Government officials said the bill would be introduced “within weeks” with a view to granting the acquittal this year.
