In 2019, BBC Newsnight anchor Emily Maitlis interviewed Prince Andrew, making history with international headlines about the Duke of York’s connection to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The story is now coming to Netflix, taking viewers behind-the-scenes of a crucial moment in journalism, politics, and storytelling.
After a first glimpse in February, Netflix has just released the full trailer for Scoop, which stars Gillian Anderson as Maitlis and Billie Piper as Sam McAlister, the producer who negotiated the interview with Buckingham Palace. Rufus Sewell plays the Prince.
The dramatised version of the crucial interview is based on McAlister’s book, which recounts the gruelling process of securing the interview and everything that happened along the way. The one hour-long interview resulted in Prince Andrew stepping away from his royal duties and later being stripped of his military titles and patronages.
Scoop comes to Netflix on April 5.
