A Quiet Place introduced us to a world where making sound was a death sentence. In the upcoming A Quiet Place: Day One, we get to see how that apocalyptic future came to be. For this prequel, director Michael Sarnoski takes the reins from A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II director John Krasinski, who still helped with Day One‘s story.
Based on the film’s first trailer, the invasion of A Quiet Place‘s sound-sensitive aliens comes seemingly out of nowhere. Everything is business as usual on the streets of New York City until meteor fragments rain from the sky, bringing hostile life forms with them. In the fallout, we follow a crew of survivors — played by Lupita Nyong’o, carrying a very brave cat; Joseph Quinn, Stranger Things‘ own Eddie Munson; and Djimon Hounsou, reprising his role from A Quiet Place Part II — as they brave abandoned subway tunnels and collapsing skyscrapers. Here’s hoping they’re quiet enough to make it out of New York City alive.
A Quiet Place: Day One opens in theaters June 28.
