The MCU has dramatically changed how we watch big budget franchise movies, encouraging us to sit through the credits in the hopes of mid-credit and post-credit scenes that tease everything from shocking cameos to exciting looks at future movies.
It all began with Iron Man when Nick Fury crashed Tony Stark’s pad. The MCU has continued with its post-credit scenes for every film to come. Recent examples include Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hinting at Loki Season 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 giving us a look at the new Guardians team, which includes Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) and Phyla (Kai Zen).
The Marvels bucks this tradition in a big way, as it has no post-credit scene. However, the film does still feature a mid-credits scene that packs a major punch with an amazing cameo. But there are no extra scenes after that.
Strangely, The Marvels final scene — just before the credits roll — certainly feels like a post-credit scene with its teasing of a potential spinoff/sequel story. Perhaps the unexpected placement is a sign that Marvel is aware of audience’s fatigue of waiting for crumbs of superhero stories.
Nonetheless, there’s never any harm in sitting through the credits even if there’s no scene waiting for you on the other side. This way, you can appreciate the artists who put their time and effort into bringing the cosmic chaos of The Marvels to life.
The Marvels is now in theaters.
