Premier League match halted and Luton Town captain was taken away on a stretcher, described as ‘alert and responsive’
The Premier League fixture between Bournemouth and Luton Town was called off midway through the second half after the Luton defender Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch and players from both sides were sent to their dressing rooms. Luton’s medical staff later confirmed the defender had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Lockyer, who remained on the ground, was treated by paramedics and staff at the Vitality stadium after Luton manager Rob Edwards ran on to the pitch to move his players out of the way. Lockyer, who was removed from the field of play on a stretcher surrounded by the medical team, received a standing ovation from the crowd.
